About Me

Hi! I'm Rachel.

I'm a new graduate of the University of Washington's Full Stack Web Development Bootcamp, where I discovered a huge amount of joy in building web apps with both utility and personality. I build stylish, functional MERN-stack applications and pride myself on delivering complete, cohesive projects from the ground up. Check out "Current Projects" below for a sneak peek at what I'm currently up to, click on "My Work" for more in-depth information about what I do, or drop me a line with any and all questions!

I work with:

HTML5 | CSS3 | JavaScript/ES6 | jQuery | Ruby on Rails | React.js | Redux.js | Gatsby.js | Node.js | Express.js | MySQL/Sequelize | MongoDB/Mongoose | GraphQL | AJAX/Axios
...And adding more every day!

Current Projects:
  • I'm thrilled to share that I've teamed up with Vitalcy, Inc for my very first internship! I'm strengthening my React skills, and adding Ruby on Rails to my skillset, all while having a great time with this exciting new startup!

  • I've teamed up with a few of my fellow bootcamp grads to tackle our first freelance project as Designly LLC, building a modern replacement for our clients at Emerald Marine Products. Site will launch June 30th, so watch this space for updates!

...or at least, a developer. Explore this dungeon-crawler RPG built using React.js and Redux, designed to teach basic coding concepts and provide practice for algorithm challenges to new developers seeking a fun and interactive way to implement their skills. I collaborated on a team of four to produce this final project for bootcamp; we sought to challenge ourselves, create something fun, nostalgic, and useful, and have enormous fun doing it. I built the server and database for this project, as well as writing the storyline and NPC dialogue and implementing an in-browser code editor and mock test suite to evaluate users' solutions to our algorithm challgnes.

...and have opinions about yours. For the second major project of bootcamp, my team of four wanted to create an app to help anyone who struggles with keeping their kitchen organized--so, everyone! Realizing we were working in a fairly saturated market, we set out to make our app unique with a choice of visual themes, the addition of daily humorous life advice provided by the WikiHow API, and most importantly, the adorable Cado Family to keep watch over our users and their food. I served as the back-end engineer on this project, building the server and database and carefully curating our selection of life advice.

...Or any city you so desire. For this project, I used the Open Weather API and the LCARS CSS library to create a useful app for searching and saving weather conditions in any given city, with a fun UI based on a certain popular circa-1990 television series.
